Netflix Break Point Curse: Everything you should know about the recent imprecation

Published by

‘Break Point’ is a tennis-based Netflix series featuring some of the top stars in the ATP and WTA circuit – here is everything you should know about the curse.

The ‘Break Point’ curse seems to be having its effect for real as Thanasi Kokkinakis becomes the latest player to bow out of the Australian Open. Out of the 10 players who featured in the inaugural season of this Netflix series, 8 have either missed the tournament or been eliminated. Nick Kyrgios, who is one of the lead characters in this docu-series had to withdraw due to injury while others like Matteo Berrettini, Taylor Fritz, Casper Ruud, Ons Jabeur among others have been eliminated. As things stand, only Felix Auger-Aliassime and Maria Sakkari have managed to survive so far but if the curse is for real, their chances don’t look too bright either.

Felix and Maria are both seeded stars and the onus is now on them to break this curse. Meanwhile, Kokkinakis was handed a shocking loss by Murray despite the Australian leading 2 sets to love. The manner of the defeat was such that fans believe if the curse strikes, you are gone for real. Berrettini, Ruud, Jabeur are also top-ranked and their elimination so early in the tournament certainly comes across as a major surprise.

“You know I’d think the curse would affect them while they’re being filmed rather than months afterwards, but all of them actually did quite well during the filming surprisingly enough”, wrote a fan.

“FAA and Sakkari, not a duo I have a ton of confidence in to break the curse”, joked another fan.

“Should I start worrying about Iga Wimbledon chances, since the part 2 of second season is supposed to be released in June?”, commented another fan.

Another fan wrote: “So are you affected by the curse simply by not winning a grand slam?Guess all the other people losing are mega cursed because they weren’t even in the show.”
