Rafael Nadal married his longtime girlfriend ‘Mery’ in October, 2019 and are expecting a child together very soon
An old video of Rafael Nadal speaking to Jim Courier about his girlfriend ‘Mery’ finally getting to accompany him at the Australian Open has gone viral on Twitter. The interaction between Nadal and Courier is from the 2017 Australian Open, after Nadal’s win over Gael Monfils. The video is indeed funny and cute at the same time and has made fans burst into peels of laughter.
After his win against Monfils Nadal was asked by Courier about his girlfriend (now wife) Maria Francisca Perello accompanying him to the tournament in Melbourne for the first time in their 10-year relationship.
“This is also the first time that you’ve brought your girlfriend Xisca down to Australia if I’m not mistaken. Is that right? How has that been for you to have her with you here? Have you guys been having some fun here in Australia as well?”, asked Courier. To this, Nadal replied , “Yes it was great. The negative thing is that I lost in the quarter-finals in Brisbane, but the good thing is that I had the chance to visit Sydney and I hadn’t been there before. I was knowing a little bit of Sydney and we enjoyed it. And now finally after 10 years my girlfriend gets a wildcard to come here.”
Throughout the conversation, Nadal’s then-girlfriend ‘Mery’ was seen smiling in the stands. Two years later in 2019, Nadal and Merry got married.
