Carlos Alcaraz became the youngest player to become the No.1 ranked player following his win over Casper Ruud.
Carlos Alcaraz defeated Casper Ruud to win the US Open Title. Following his win against Ruud, Alcaraz became the youngest player ever to be the No. 1 ranked player in the world.
This is a remarkable achievement from Alcaraz who has been consistent throughout the year and won multiple titles on his way to becoming the No. 1 rank player in the world.
In his first-ever Grand Slam, Carlos Alcaraz got the job done against Casper Ruud in 4 sets by a score of 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 & 6-3. Both these players have had a stellar year so far, but unfortunately for Ruud, he lost the second Grand Slam Final of this year following his loss to Rafael Nadal at Rolland Garros.
Following the loss to Alcaraz, Ruud had all the praise for the young Spaniard star. Talking about the match, Casper Ruud said, “It was an exciting match to play. Many fun rallies, fun shots. Sad it didn’t go my way but Carlos stepped up when he needed to, specially in the 3rd. He was too good on those set points. We have seen it very times before with him. All credit to him”.
Casper Ruud continued to laud Carlos Alcaraz following his first Grand Slam triumph
Despite losing out in his second Grand Slam final of the year, Casper Ruud didn’t show any signs of bitterness. Like always he was a class act who appreciated his opponent that was better than him on the given day.
Casper Ruud continued to talk about the game and said, “I’m proud. I played probably my best even tennis on this surface. I was maybe a bit too passive on those set points, specially the first. I should have gone for a little bit more. That was probably the moment that decided the match. I played an horrible tiebreak.”
Talking about Alcaraz, Ruud said, “Incredibly impressive what he has achieved already as a teenager. It’s hard to believe sometimes how young he is. He is one of those few rare talents that comes up every now and then. Let’s see how he career continues but he looks in a good way”.
He added, “Alcaraz is the best player in the world at the moment, for me. He deserves that spot. I think I deserve to be number 2 as well. I’m very proud of that and in a way it’s a good thing because I have one more spot to chase. He is young, he recovers fast. Looked fresh as ever. It’s impressive”.
Both Carlos Alcaraz and Casper Ruud are bound to face each other many times in the coming future. They are the two top-ranked players in the world right now and might face each other in the ATP Finals also once they start later in the year.
Carlos Alcaraz became the third different player in 3 years to win the US Open. A Grand Slam that is famous to see different winners than the regular Big 3, has now seen young stars like Dominic Thiem, Daniil Medvedev, and Carlos Alcaraz winning the title in the last three editions.
