Zverev, who is gearing up for the upcoming Adria Tour, which will kick off in the Serbian capital of Belgrade on June 13 was seen in action during an exhibition match ahead of the tournament.
Zverev posted a photo of himself playing football on his Instagram story feed after the match. The 23-year-old like many of his fellow tennis stars had been undergoing self-quarantine since mid-March in the wake of the pandemic coronavirus outbreak.
“@FCBAYERN Am I ready for my trail”, Zverev posted funnily on his social media account.
The funds generated from the tournament will be donated to various charitable organisations. Which includes the Novak Djokovic Foundation’s Early Childhood Development and Education programs.
Meanwhile, Zverev was joined by fellow tennis stars Novak Djokovic, Dominic Thiem, Filip Krajinovic, Grigor Dimitrov, Damir Dzumhur, Viktor Troicki and Novak’s brother, Marko Djokovic.
The team played under the name Adria Tour team in white jerseys against the Art Football Serbia team in red. It was the Adria team that ended up winning the game 3-2.
The entertaining and competitive friendly game witnessed Bulgarian Dimitrov scoring one of the three goals after receiving an assist from Djokovic.
Djokovic could not hide his excitement celebrated by taking off his jersey. However, the Serb was given a yellow card by the referee. Djokovic looked in good shape as he was seen sprinting across the pitch alongside his fellow stars.
Djokovic’s love for football is no secret among tennis fans having openly declared his support for Serbian football club Red Star Belgrade years ago. He also supports Italian side AC Milan, and Portuguese outfit SL Benfica.
Tennis is slowly limping back to normalcy. All events were stopped due to the coronavirus. However, the Adria Tour is one small step in the right direction.
