The Frenchwoman Alize Cornet played some brilliant tennis to oust the top seed Iga Swiatek in the third round of Wimbledon 2022.
The 2022 French Open champion Iga Swiatek was on an incredible 37-match winning streak. However, the streak came to an end courtesy of the world No. 37 Alize Cornet. Swiatek made too many errors and that is something that we can’t relate to the current world No. 1.
However, take nothing away from Cornet’s performance as she didn’t give her Polish opponent a sniff. The 32-year-old won the match 6-4, 6-2. This was the first meeting between the two players and Cornet certainly caught the talented youngster off guard.
Swiatek started slow off the blocks as Cornett took a 3-0 lead in the first set. The Polish star did manage to win two games in a row but the lead that Cornett got at the start, allowed her to express herself as the match went on. Swiatek managed to win four games in the first set but the second set was a lopsided affair.
In the post-match interview, Cornett admitted that she is a huge fan of Swiatek and called her “a nice ambassador of women’s tennis”. She said she felt flattered upon defeating her third-round opponent. Cornet also mentioned that this win reminded her of how she defeated the legendary Serena Williams 8 years ago on the same court.

In her first tweet, Cornet appreciated Swiatek as she wrote: “Congrats @iga_swiatek for being such an amazing leader. Very honored to share the court with you today”
In her second tweet, the 32-year-old wrote: “What a feeling Thank you @Wimbledon, see you in week two”
Alize Cornet will face world No. 44 Ajla Tomljanovic in the Round of 16. The head-to-head between the two players currently stands at 2-2.
