The talented Russian player, Andrey Rublev, is currently playing in the ATP Finals in Turin where he is placed in the Red Group alongside the likes of Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

It has been a fruitful year for Rublev as he has bagged four titles on tour so far. He won the Open 13 early in the year and went on to capture titles at the Dubai Tennis Championships, the Serbia Open, and the Gijon Open.

The Olympic gold medalist also made it to the quarterfinals at the French Open and the US Open. After being ousted in the group stage at the 2021 ATP Finals, Rublev has got off to a fine start at this year’s season-ending event. He faced compatriot and former world No. 1, Daniil Medvedev, in the first group-stage encounter. Rublev bounced back after losing the first set and eventually won the match 6-7 (7-9), 6-3, 7-6 (9-7).

The tension between Russia and Ukraine has taken its toll on the sporting world and tennis is no different. Russian players were banned from participating in the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. To show their disapproval of the decision, ATP and WTA decided not to award ranking points in the grass-court major.

Rublev, after his win against Medvedev, took a marker pen and wrote a special message on the camera. The world No. 7 wrote: “Peace, peace, peace. All we need.”
