Are legendary tennis players Boris Becker and John McEnroe commentating at Wimbledon 2023?
Wimbledon 2023 features some of the best presenters and commentators besides the top Tennis players. A number of elite names constitute BBC’s commentary team – Andrew Castle, Andrew Cotter, Sam Smith, Chris Bradnam, Kat Downes, Nick Mullins, Matt Chilton, Simon Reed and John Inverdale.
Former English cricketer Isa Guha is back as a commentator while John McEnroe, Martina Navratilova, Billie Jean King and Pat Cash are featuring as pundits. However, Boris Becker who has been synonymous to BBC coverage over the years will not play a part this year.
Becker was deported from the UK last year following his release from prison. In May 2022, Becker was sentenced to two and a half years in prison on charges related to his 2017 declaration of bankruptcy. London’s Southwark Crown Court found the tennis icon guilty of transferring large amounts of money illegally and hiding assets after declaring himself bankrupt.

Boris Becker was deported from the UK following his release from prison
Becker was released from prison in 2022 and was subsequently deported from the United Kingdom. He was earlier arrested after the jury found that he had failed to declare his share in a sprawling £1m property in his German hometown of Leimen and hid a bank loan of almost £700,000 on that house, as well as shares in a technology firm valued at £66,000.
He was also found to have made £390,000 worth of payments from his business account to nine others, including those of his ex-wife Barbara and estranged wife Sharlely Becker – all of that after he filed for bankruptcy.
Becker turned into a yoga instructor temporarily during his time in prison. He made friends with inmates at Huntercombe prison in England and hosted yoga classes for around 45 people. The German gave up alcohol, became a regular in the facility’s gym, and lost around 17 pounds during his stay in prison.
As a sportsman, Becker had rigorous training routines in his prime and he knows all too well about fitness and health regimes. He was quite happy to share the same knowledge with the inmates. However, there is no exact information about his profession since his release.
