Tennys Sandgren comes up with hilarious response to Tommy Paul after the latter’s loss at Indian Wells.
Tommy Paul suffered a shock exit from the Indian Wells Masters after failing to capitalize 6 match points against eighth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime.
The Canadian came back from a set down and saved six match points in the final set to clinch a thrilling victory against the local favourite. However, Felix’s journey in the tournament came to an end earlier today after he succumbed to a 4-6, 4-6 defeat in the quarter-finals against top seed Carlos Alcaraz.
A dejected Paul later posted on social media thanking his fans for the support: “That one hurt but loved the crowd and all the support this week. You all always make me feel so at home here at @bnpparibasopen. See you next year.” It was on the same post that his compatriot Tennys Sandgren came up with a hilarious response. “At least it wasn’t 7”, the American replied. The comment is in reference to his own match in the 2020 Australian Open, when Sandgren lost 7 match points to lose to Roger Federer in the quarter-finals.

“Tennys does have some good jokes about that match against Federer”, wrote a fan.
“Tennis players in today game love to interact with each other on social media. I don’t see this happen as much in other sports. Not complaining but just an observation”, another fan pointed out correctly.
“I’m Canadian but went to the AO in 2020. It was an all-time goal of mine to see Federer in person, and I was lucky enough to be in the crowd for the Sangren match. It was incredible. It made the ~15k I spent on the trip 100% worthwhile”, read a comment.
“Did he have a different username prior to that match?”, commented another fan, referring to Sandgren’s funny ‘tsandgren7’ username on Instagram.
