A number of ATP stars including Tsitsipas, Alcaraz, Felix, de Minnaur and Dimitrov will be in action on 20th April at the Barcelona Open
The qualifying stages of the Barcelona Open have come to an end and we are very much into the business end of the tournament. It’s now time for the seeded stars to take center stage and get in touch on the clay surface ahead of the Roland Garros later next month. Rafael Nadal is the defending champion but will be missing the event due to a rib injury. The other top three ranked players on the ATP tour – Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, and Alexander Zverev are also not participating in this tournament which means world no.5 Stefanos Tsitsipas is the top seed.
Stefanos Tsitsipas is high on confidence after winning the recently concluded Monte Carlo Masters. The Greek’s opponent in the Round of 32 is yet to be known and will depend on today’s results.
Carlos Alcaraz will be in action later in the day against Korea’s Kwon Soon-Woo. The Spaniard will be looking to come back strong after his early exit in the previous tournament in Monte Carlo. The teenager has been in hot form this year winning the Rio Open and the Miami Open but exhaustion and fatigue seemed to get the better of him in Monte Carlo. Alcaraz would aim to brush aside the one-off loss and be in prime touch in this tournament, treating it as an ideal warm-up event leading to the Roland Garros.
Felix Auger-Aliassime will also be in action in Round 32. The Canadian is the no.3 seed and is yet to know who he will face. Results today will determine his opponent. Felix desperately needs some good form after a lackluster past few weeks. He hasn’t quite played his best game and the results show that.
Grigor Dimitrov is set to face Federico Coria. The Bulgarian is coming off an incredible run at the Monte Carlo Masters. It saw him defeat top seeds like Hubert Hurkacz and Casper Ruud. He lost to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the semi-finals. This will be Dimitrov and Coria’s first encounter with each other on the ATP tour. The veteran Bulgarian is certainly the favorite going into the match both in terms of rankings and present form. We are predicting a win in straight sets for Grigor Dimitrov.
