Top ATP stars including Djokovic, Rublev, Fognini and Karatsev will be in action on 20th April at the Serbia Open
The Serbia Open is set to host several top-ranked players on Day 4 of the tournament. We are well into the clay-court season. Tennis players are playing events on clay surfaces around the world to get into the groove ahead of the year’s second Grand Slam. This tournament in Belgrade serves as the perfect opportunity for the players to find their rhythm leading to the French Open in the last week of May.
Novak Djokovic is the local favorite and the no.1 seed in the tournament. World No. 1 suffered an early exit from the Monte Carlo Masters. He lost to unseeded Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in his first-round match. The Serbian failed to find his rhythm. He was out of action from the ATP tour for two months since the Dubai Tennis Championships. He would be aiming to make a statement on home turf and be on the top of his game to defend his title in Paris next month. Djokovic’s round of 16 opponents is not yet known and will depend on the results of today’s matches.
The top 4 seeds will all be in action on 20th April. Besides Djokovic, Andrey Rublev (2), Karen Khachanov (3), and Aslan Karatsev (4) are all set to be in action in their respective round of 16 matches. Their opponents are yet to be confirmed. Today’s results will determine who they face in the opening matches of their campaign.
Fabio Fognini and emerging star from Serbia Miomir Kecmanovic are the other star attractions of the day. While Kecmanovic (7) is yet to know who his opponent will be, the sixth seed Fognini is scheduled to take on Slovenia’s Aljaz Bedene. Both are veteran players on the circuit and have faced each other nine times before on the ATP tour. Fognini has an overwhelming head-to-head winning on eight of those occasions. However, Bedene did manage to win in their last meeting back in 2019. On paper, Fognini is the outright favorite both in terms of rankings and head-to-head records and we are predicting a comprehensive win in straight sets for the Italian.
