Day 5 of the Serbia Open 2022 is set to witness high-voltage clashes including the first batch of quarter-finals
As we approach the business end of the tournament, things are starting to heat up in Serbia. Top seeds like Andrey Rublev (2), Aslan Karatsev (4), Fabio Fognini (6) are scheduled to be in action in their respective Round of 16 matches while the day also marks the beginning of the quarter-final phase. Here’s everything you need to know about the Serbia Open matches on 21st April – schedule, preview, predictions and more.
Fabio Fognini is scheduled to take on Slovenia’s Aljaz Bedene. Both are veteran players on the circuit and have faced each other nine times before on the ATP tour. Fognini has an overwhelming head to head winning on eight of those occasions. However, Bedene did manage to win in their last meeting back in 2019. On paper, Fognini is the outright favourite both in terms of rankings and head to head records and we are predicting a comprehensive win in straight sets for the Italian.
The 2nd seed Andrey Rublev will take on Czech Republic’s Jiri Lehecka. They haven’t met each other before on the ATP tour and Rublev goes into this match as the overwhelming favourite thanks to his much superior ranking. Lehecka is currently ranked 93rd in men’s singles while Rublev is World No.8.We predict a comprehensive win in straight sets for Andrey Rublev.
Meanwhile, another top-seeded Russian Aslan Karatsev will be up against Germany’s Oscar Otte in their Round of 16 encounter on April 21. The two players haven’t faced each other before on the ATP tour but they have played twice on the ITF Challengers and Futures series. On both those occasions, Karatsev came out on top in straight sets. We are predicting a close battle with Aslan Karatsev eventually winning it in three sets.
