Stefanos Tsitsipas is presently placed 5th in the world in men’s singles ATP rankings
Stefanos Tsitsipas is in hot form and won the recently concluded Monte Carlo Masters, his first title of the year. The Greek star has a highest career ranking of No.3 in men’s singles but currently occupies the fifth spot. Tsitsipas has a long way to go if he has to end up in the top two by the end of the year. Can he do it? Well, it is tough but if he maintains his consistency, it’s certainly not impossible.
Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev and Rafael Nadal are placed above Tsitsipas in the latest rankings. While Djokovic and Medvedev haven’t been at their best so far this year, Tsitsipas has always held an edge over Zverev at least when it comes to head to head clashes. Rafael Nadal has had a fabulous year until he suffered a major setback due to his injury. Nadal isn’t getting any younger and it will be tough for him to maintain his hot streak of form. That definitely leaves Tsitsipas with a realistic chance of finishing the year in the top 2 of the men’s singles rankings.
Stefanos Tsitsipas successfully defended his Monte Carlo Masters title
Stefanos Tsitsipas was in sublime touch at the Monte Carlo Masters. The Greek looked invincible throughout the tournament and carried forward the positive momentum to win the much-coveted title.
Tsitsipas followed up his straight-sets victory against Fabio Fognini in the first round with another comfortable win against Laslo Dere in the next round . He then went on to win against Diego Schwartzman in three sets before brushing aside second seed Alexander Zverev 6-4, 6-2 in the semi-finals.
The Greek star then took on the surprise package of the tournament, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the final. The Spaniard had got the better of top-seeded players like Novak Djokovic and Taylor Fritz in the previous rounds. However, Tsitsipas was too good for the young Spaniard and cruised to a straight-sets win to successfully defend his Monte Carlo Masters title.
