Austin Krajicek and Ivan Dodig won the men’s doubles title at the recently concluded French Open
Austin Krajicek has climbed up to the No.1 spot in the ATP men’s doubles rankings following a title-winning run at the Roland Garros. He has joined an illustrious list of 19 other American Tennis players who have held the coveted top spot of men’s doubles. Such has been America’s dominance in this category that while they have had twenty No.1 doubles players till date, no other country has had more than four.
Krajicek had an incredible title-winning run at the clay-court Grand Slam alongside his partner Ivan Dodig. The US-Croatian began their campaign in Paris with a hard-fought win over the Argentine duo of Duran/Baez. They then went on to get the better of Huesler/Jarry in straight sets before registering another commendable win against the pair of Cabral/Matos.
They continued their rich vein of form in the business end of the tournament, beating the German duo of Putz/Krawietz in the quarter-finals before decimating the seasoned duo of Granollers/Zeballos in the semis. In the final, they beat Gille/Vliegen in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 to bag the prestigious title.
Austin Krajicek has a professional career spanning more than a decade. He is a specialist doubles player and has hardly played singles on the ATP tour. Krajicek has been particularly good at the French Open, winning it in 2023 besides finishing runners-up earlier in 2022. The American star has won ten ATP doubles titles in his professional career till date. The 32-year-old is a regular on the ATP tour and is one of the most experienced doubles players in the men’s circuit.
Krajicek made his ATP debut in 2012 but it wasn’t until 2018 that he made a mark on the professional tour. Krajicek won his maiden ATP title in 2020 at the Austrian Open in Kitzbuhel. However, it was 2022 which happened to be the breakthrough year for him. Krajicek notably broke into the Top 10 of the world rankings in men’s doubles and reached the ATP finals in that year. He continued his rich vein of form in 2023 and won his maiden Masters 1000 title – the 2023 Monte Carlo Masters, partnering Ivan Dodig before going on to win the prestigious French Open title.
