Battle of the Brits 2020 results: Andy Murray suffers a defeat in his second match on Day Two

Andy Murray suffered a loss against British No.2 Kyle Edmund on Day Two of the Battle of the Brits 2020.

Edmund, became the first player to go through to the semi-finals after emerging on top of the Tim Henman singles group.

However, it was not an easy affair for Edmund, as the four-time Grand Slam champion Murray put up a good fight. Murray is returning to action after his hip surgery in November last year,

Edmund edged past Murray 6-7, 7-6, 10-5 in a tight encounter to secure his place in the semifinals. Murray’s much-anticipated comeback since the Davis Cup Finals at the end of last year saw the former British No.1 starting off with a win on Day One.

He registered a 6-2, 6-2 comfortable win over current British No.4 Liam Broady in his opening match. Murray will next play against James Ward on Thursday and the winner of the match will progress into the semi-finals.

Dan Evans top in the Greg Rusedski group

British No.1 Dan Evans topped the Greg Rusedski group after hitting cruise control against Jay Clarke with a straight-set 6-3, 6-1 win on the opening day of the Battle of the Brits.

Evans is joined by youngster Cameron Norrie in the Greg Rusedski group after he toppled Ryan Peniston, who had been drafted into the field as a super-sub for the injured Jack Draper 3-6, 6-1, 10-4.

Meanwhile, Andy Murray’s next challenger Ward had put in a very solid performance against Liam Broady to give himself a chance to vie for a semi-final spot, with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Broady.

In the Day Two doubles match, Australian Open men’s doubles champion Joe Salisbury teamed up with Jonny O’Mara to take on Dominic Inglot and Ryan Peniston.

Salisbury and O’Mara kicked off the action with a victory over Peniston and Inglot with a solid 6-4, 6-2 victory. Later in the day, Dan Evans and Lloyd Glasspool joined hands to record a hard-fought 4-6, 6-3, 11-9 win over Liam Broady and Cameron Norrie in the Paul Hutchins Group.

Results (Day Two): Doubles: Salisbury/O’Mara bt Peniston/Inglot 6-4, 6-2; Evans/Glasspool bt Broady/Norrie 4-6, 6-3, 11-9; Singles: James Ward bt Liam Broady 6-4, 6-1; Cameron Norrie bt Ryan Peniston 3-6, 6-1, 10-4; Kyle Edmund bt Andy Murray 6-7, 7-6, 10-5.
