Legendary Indian cricketer, Mithali Raj, announced retirement from cricket just a few days back
Mithali Raj revealed on Twitter that she is a huge fan of tennis icons Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. The legendary cricketer hosted an interactive session on Twitter called #AskMithali where she was asked the question – “If not cricket, which sports do you like playing/watching?” In response, Mithali tweeted – “Tennis. Big fan of Roger Federer and Nadal.”
Federer and Nadal are widely regarded as two of the best players in the game’s history. The two have captured 20 and 22 Grand Slam singles titles respectively. Along with Novak Djokovic (21), the trio are the all-time Major title leaders in men’s singles.
The duo shares a riveting rivalry on the court and it would be really interesting to know who Mithali supports when the two are facing. But, that is a question for another day!
Mithali seems to be a huge tennis fan and responding to another question, she said that she has read ‘Open‘, the autobiography of American tennis legend Andre Agassi.
Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal share one of the most iconic rivalries of the modern era
Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal share a rivalry for the ages. The contrast between their game styles – Federer’s relentless attack and Nadal’s dogged defense – adds an intriguing layer to their rivalry.
Federer trails the pair’s head-to-head 24-16, including 10-4 in the Majors, but the Swiss have beaten Nadal in five of the pair’s last six meetings. The last of them was at Wimbledon in 2019, where Federer beat Nadal in a four-set semifinal before losing to Djokovic in the final.
Federer (40) has been out of action since Wimbledon last year due to injury, while Nadal is still going strong, winning the Australian Open and Roland Garros this year.
Both players are in the twilight of their careers and tennis fans across the world would like to relish the opportunity to watch them play against each other for one last time. Will that happen? – Uncertain. But, we seriously hope it does happen.
