American tennis pro – Coco Gauff is an avid football fan and she is obviously rooting for the USA at the ongoing Fifa World Cup.
The Fifa World Cup has picked up steam as the likes of Portugal, Brazil, USA, Netherlands, Senegal, France, and England have already progressed through to the knockouts.
The USA was placed in group B alongside England, Wales, and Iran. After drawing their first two matches against Wales and England, the USA had to win their last encounter against Iran to qualify for the round of 16. They beat Iran 1-0 thanks to Christian Pulisic’s goal in the 38th minute. The USA will now take on the Netherlands in the round of 16 on Saturday.
Coco Gauff was ecstatic after the result as she took to Twitter to express her excitement. She shared a post regarding the USA’s advancement into the round of 16 and wrote:
“Big time!”

Coco Gauff’s season came to an end after her exit in the group stage of the WTA Finals earlier in November.
The world No. 7 won 38 matches this season and lost 23 with a win percentage of 62.30. She did not win any singles title on the tour this season.
However, she did manage to win her first WTA 1000 doubles title at the Qatar Open, partnering with Jessica Pegula. The America duo won their second WTA 1000 title together at the Canadian Open. With this result, Gauff became the No. 1 ranked player in doubles. She is currently ranked No. 4 in doubles and won 27 matches and lost 14 this season with a win percentage of 65.85. The 18-year-old won three doubles titles this season and earned combined prize money of $3,051,953.
