A topsy-turvy day for Canada as they crashed out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup the same day they won the 2022 Davis Cup.

Canada qualified for the 2022 Fifa World Cup for just the second time in its history. They made it to the Fifa World Cup in 1986 but had to wait for 36 years to reach the biggest stage in national football.

Team Canada celebrate after winning the Davis Cup

Canada was placed in a tough group alongside last edition’s finalist, Croatia, and the dangerous Belgium side. Morocco rounded up Group F. While Morocco managed to stun Belgium and has a chance to reach the knockouts, Canada’s journey ended with consecutive losses against Belgium and Croatia. The North American side will face Morocco in their last group-stage encounter on Thursday.

While their team’s exit from the Fifa World Cup was a setback for the Canadians, good news came their way when Felix Auger-Aliassime and co. won the Davis Cup finals against Australia in Malaga, Spain. Davis Cup is branded as the “World Championship of Tennis” and Canada won the crown for the first time.

An absolute DREAM come true to win with these guys by my side
No words…memories for a lifetime.”
