Carlos Alcaraz was pleasantly surprised on his return to El Palmar after the Roland Garros in Paris
Teenage sensation Carlos Alcaraz has been honored in his local village with a street mural, which the 19-year-old inaugurated Monday following his return from Roland Garros. The Spaniard returned to his hometown of El Palmar to spend some time with his family before he travels to London to take part in the Wimbledon.
The Spanish teenager has had an incredible year so far. Alcaraz became the youngest ever champion of the Miami Masters ATP 1000 event earlier in 2022. Earlier this year, Alcaraz won the Rio Open. Alcaraz became the youngest ever ATP 500 champion after defeating Diego Schwartzmann 6-4, 6-2 in the final. The 19-year-old is rapidly gaining popularity at the global level owing to his performances.
“I want to keep bringing trophies back to the village, to the region of Murcia and thanks very much to all of you,” Alcaraz told a crowd gathered in front of the new street art painted on the side of an El Palmar building.

Murcia’s Mayor, Serrano reserved high praise for Carlos Alcaraz, calling him “an unbeatable ambassador” for Murcia.
He said, “You are going to give us a lot of joy and all of Murcia will be with you encouraging you and pushing you towards success. As Mayor of Murcia, I cannot help but congratulate you for bearing the name of our municipality and your district, El Palmar, around the world. You have become an unbeatable ambassador.”
Alcaraz’s mural apparently 400 square-meters wide, with 300 kilograms of plastic being used in various shades. Additionally, varnish has been applied to prevent the mural’s degradation and preserve the shine.
Carlos Alcaraz will now be gearing up for the Grass court season with the Wimbledon starting later this month. It will be interesting to see how Alcaraz fares on grass courts after earning most of his success on clay and hard courts so far. Having said that, he is in a rich vein of the form along with his confident mindset and would look to adapt to the surface for a consistent run in the long term.
