Carlos Alcaraz was honoured with a giant portrait on one of the walls of his hometown school in Murcia
Carlos Alcaraz‘s legacy is set to be immortalized in his hometown of Murcia with a mural on one of the walls of his childhood school. The Ciudad de La Paz primary school in El Palmar, Spain, has commissioned a massive artwork to pay homage to ‘Carlitos’ as the teenager continues to bring unparalleled glory to the small town.
This must be overwhelming for Alcaraz, who will be looking to focus on his final against Medvedev at the Indian Wells Masters amidst all the euphoria.
Alcaraz paid a visit to his hometown school last year after the Roland Garros and met with his former teachers and other school staff who have been an integral part of his younger days. The decision to create a mural in his honour was taken after this visit not just to cement his legacy but also to inspire the current students to dream big. The mural serves as a reminder of his journey thus far and a celebration of his achievements, which have earned him recognition and accolades from around the world.
The creation of Alcaraz’s mural in his primary school is not the first instance of the Spaniard being honoured in his hometown. After his incredible victory at the 2022 US Open, Alcaraz was given a Hero’s welcome and greeted with a mural in his hometown of Murcia. Alcaraz’s mural is 400 square meters wide, with 300 kilograms of plastic being used in various shades. Additionally, varnish has been applied to prevent the mural’s degradation and preserve its shine.
Besides the murals, giant billboards containing Alcaraz’s pictures are a common sight across various cities in Spain. The World No. 2 has achieved an immense amount of fame at a very young age and it’s only going to get bigger and better. The 19-year-old is emotionally attached to his roots despite all the success and glamour around and that’s what makes him such a popular figure back home in Spain.
