Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner create records ahead of their clash at Wimbledon 2022

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have been in some terrific form in the ongoing Wimbledon tournament. They will face each other in what promises to be an intriguing Round of 16 match.

The Italian youngster Jannik Sinner has been quite impressive in the tournament thus far. In round one, he got the better of three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. In the second round, the 20-year-old Sinner defeated the Swedish star Mikael Ymer 6-4, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 with an impressive first-serve percentage of 80. The 2022 Australian Open quarterfinalist Sinner overcame a barrage of aces (24) from the 20th seed, John Isner to win in straight sets 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.

The 11th seed became the youngest Italian man to reach the Round of 16 at Wimbledon in the Open Era courtesy of his magnificent triumph in round three.

The 19-year-old Carlos Alcaraz has also shown in this tournament why he is regarded by many as someone who could become the next big thing in the tennis world. The Spaniard had to fight hard to win his first-round match against Jan-Lennard Struff in a five-set affair. The match ended 4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 in favor of the youngster. In round two, Alcaraz won with ease against the Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor 6-4, 7-6 (7-0), 6-3. The man who has won four titles already in 2022 progressed to the fourth round after blowing away the experienced Oscar Otte 6-3, 6-1, 6-2.

Alcaraz has now become the youngest man to reach the Round of 16 since Bernard Tomic reached the 2011 quarterfinals at the age of 18.

It will be a closely-contested affair in the round of 16. We are expecting the match to go to five sets and Alcaraz to come out victorious in the end.
