Carlos Alcaraz is one of the most talented tennis players going around at the moment – the 19-year-old has been promising at the 2022 Wimbledon
The Spaniard idolizes the 22-time Grand Slam champion, Rafael Nadal. Carlos Alcaraz would want to follow in the footsteps of his idol who won his first Grand Slam at the age of 19.
The youngster had won five ATP Tour singles titles and two Masters 1000 titles. This year, he was knocked out of the Australian Open in the third round, and in the French Open, he made it to the quarter-final before losing to Alexander Zverev.
Last year, Alcaraz lost in the second round of the Wimbledon against the current World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev. Carlos Alcaraz faced Jan-Lennard Struff in the first round of Wimbledon 2022. The Spaniard had to fight hard to eventually win in five sets against the World No. 155. He came back from being two sets to one down to eventually get the victory 4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4. Alcaraz fired as many as 30 aces and 73 winners over the course of his thrilling five-set triumph over the German.
In round two, he won convincingly against Tallon Griekspoor in straight sets 6-4, 7-6 (7-0), 6-3. After the win, Alcaraz posted a tweet sharing his reaction upon reaching the third round of Wimbledon for the first time in his career.
Who will Carlos Alcaraz face in the third round?
The fifth seed, Carlos Alcaraz, will go head-to-head with Oscar Otte in what promises to be an intriguing affair.
Oscar Otte did not have a great start to 2022 but his form is impeccable on grass courts. He made it to the semifinals of both the Boss Open and the Halle Open. The 28-year-old won his first-round match against Peter Gojowczyk in straight sets and in round two, he won when his opponent Chris Harrison had to give a walkover 30 minutes into the match.
The German star is also making his first appearance in round three of Wimbledon. Alcaraz and Otte have not faced each other before.
