Carlos Alcaraz has shown his class once again, winning his second ATP tour title of 2022. The teenager cruised to victory in the final of the Miami Open, defeating sixth seed Casper Ruud in straight sets.
18-year old Carlos Alcaraz was in sublime form throughout the tournament, registering wins in dominating fashion. Alcaraz defeated Marton Fucsovics 6-3, 6-2 in the opening round followed by a comprehensive 6-4, 6-4 victory against Marin Cilic in the Round of 32. The Spaniard then came out on top in one of the most anticipated matches of the tournament, defeating the third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets 7-5, 6-3.
Alcaraz followed it up with a hard fought victory in the semi-final against 8th seed Hubert Hurkacz 7-6, 7-6 to set up a summit clash against Casper Ruud which he has now gone on to win in some style!
Carlos Alcaraz will definitely have his eyes on the Roland Garros. The second Grand Slam of the year which starts in Paris in a month’s time is played on clay surface which suits the Spaniard’s style of play.
Alcaraz won the Rio Open last month. The tournament was played on a clay surface, a good warm-up event leading to the Roland Garos which is played on the clay surface. Alcaraz became the youngest ever ATP 500 champion after defeating Diego Schwartzmann 6-4, 6-2 in the final. Alcaraz however would need to be careful about his fitness leading to the second Grand Slam of the year. The Spaniard withdrew from the next event, the Acapulco Open in Mexico owing to a niggle he suffered post the Rio Open. He would look to ensure he stays fit and on top of his game going into the French Open with a packed schedule. And, of course, there can’t be a better morale booster than winning an ATP-1000 event – the 2022 Miami Open.
Carlos Alcaraz is often compared to his idol, Rafael Nadal. Left-handed, Spanish, strong on clay surfaces – too much in common isn’t it? Well, there is something more to it. The potential, the talent, and the precise execution, Alcaraz has in abundance. When you watch Alcaraz play, you can relate him to Nadal in the early stages of his career. Alcaraz has been considered the next big thing in tennis for quite some time now. Is it finally time for Alcaraz to put his name for reckoning along with the big boys.
