The 19-year-old Carlos Alcaraz has been playing like a dream this year. Yes, he has not been able to replicate his ATP tour performances in the Grand Slams.
However, his triumphs throughout the year assert the fact that he will soon become a force to reckon with in the near future.
The Spaniard was ousted in the third round of the Australian Open. The next tournament was the Rio Open and ALcaraz performed exceedingly well to win the title. He followed it up with another with in the Miami Open in April. His third title triumph of the year came in the Barcelona Open. He backed it up with another win at the Madrid Open.
Alcaraz has won 38 out of his 43 matches this season. He currently stands at No. 5 in the live rankings. The talented youngster is currently participating in the Hamburg European Open where he has reached the semifinal stage. If he manages to win the tournament, he will join Rafael Nadal to become the only two players to have won the three ATP 500 Clay court championships – Rio Open, Barcelona Open, and Hamburg European Open.
Carlos Alcaraz lost the first set of his first match against Nicola Kuhn. He has not dropped a set since then. He has won matches against Filip Krajinovic and Karen Khachanov to progress into the last four stage.
Alcaraz will have to topple Alex Molcan in the semifinal. The Slovak is currently ranked 48 and has picked up wins against Marko Topo, Pablo Carreno Busta, and Borna Coric in the previous three round to reach the semifinal.
Alcaraz will be the favorite going into the match but expect Molcan to put up a strong challenge. Lorenzo Musetti will face Francisco Cerundolo in the other semifinal.
