On paper, Garcia was the favourite in terms of rankings going into the match. However, Yastremska had the edge over Garcia in head to head meetings. The players had met each other twice before with Yastremska winning on both occasions. In terms of rankings, Garcia is ahead occupying the 66th spot while the Ukrainian is currently ranked No. 103 in the world. These factors made this match a hard one to predict and it shows in the eventual result.

Caroline Garcia aims to break into the top 50 of women’s tennis

Caroline Garcia has been ranked as high as No. 4 in the WTA singles rankings. She reached her career-best rank in 2018 but since then there has been a drop in her performances and results. The French tennis star is currently ranked No. 66 in the world. Garcia has won 7 WTA titles in her career so far with her best finish in a Grand Slam being a quarter-final finish at the 2017 French Open.

Garcia is a very established doubles player as well. Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic have been strong doubles pairing in the WTA circuit. They were ranked No. 2 in the world in 2016 and went on to win the French Open in the same year. Presently, Garcia has fallen well below the ladder due to a lack of participation in doubles events. She is currently ranked 175 in the world in doubles.

Caroline Garcia is scheduled to face Emma Raducanu in the next round. The British teenager is currently ranked No. 13 in the world and is definitely going to be a tough challenge for Garcia. Raducanu rose to fame after winning the 2021 US Open singles title as an 18-year old.

Since then, she has not been in the best of form. She went into her last event, the Guadalajara Open as the no.1 seed but bowed out in the first round itself. She gave her opponent a walkover midway through the match due to an injury.
