The 18-year-old Coco Gauff wore a cool retro pair of shoes called the New Balance Coco CG1 during an exhibition match prior to the ongoing Atlanta Open.
The talented youngster reached the finals of the 2022 French Open. She faced defeat at the hands of world No. 1 Iga Swiatek. However, the teenager has a great set of skills and a cool head on her shoulders. She has all the tools required to become a top player.
Gauff’s new signature shoe caught the attention of the fans. She is only the second current player to have a signature tennis shoe after the legendary Roger Federer. The shoe features a quote from her father: “You can change the world with your racket.”
Gauff spoke about having her new signature shoe and hoped she would inspire future generations. She also said that she was excited to see how people wear the shoe both on and off the court.
“It’s an absolute dream come true to be able to put my stamp on this sport with New Balance and hopefully inspire generations to come. I am really excited to see how people wear this shoe, on and off the court,” the American tennis pro said.
Gauff signed a multi-year sponsorship contract with New Balance back in 2018. She gave a detailed insight into the shoe.
“Admittedly, I’ve been using it more often than ever before, so just a few attempts. I didn’t want to overthink it and then it was up to the New Balance designers to incorporate it the right way and I love how it turned out. I hope other people do as well,” world No. 11 stated.
Gauff also revealed what she liked about the shoe: “There’s just something freeing about the color palettes and blending of styles in that era that has always stood out to me. I love putting a modern spin on those ’90s elements and it’s cool to see it coming back with my generation in so many ways.”
Coco Gauff stamped her authority in the first of her two exhibition matches at Atlanta. She defeated fellow American Taylor Townsend in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.
“I think it was a great performance,” Gauff said. “Had a lot of fun, wasn’t sure how it was going to be tonight. Taylor made it super fun. These matches have to [be] with the right person and I think Taylor was the right person.”
Gauff will face Sofia Kenin in the second exhibition match. Kenin won the 2020 Australian Open. The match promises to be an exciting one that fans would enjoy watching.
The US Open begins on August 29. Gauff had a great run in the 2021 women’s doubles event at Flushing Meadows. She teamed with Caty McNally and reached the finals before losing to Samantha Stosur and Zhang Shuai. However, she could not progress beyond the second round in the singles competition. This year, she will hope to do much better.
Gauff has won two titles in her career as of now as far as her singles career is concerned. Speaking about doubles, she has won four titles and is currently ranked no. 6 in the world.
