Daniil Medvedev has broken his silence on the controversy surrounding world no.1 Novak Djokovic
Over the past week, Novak Djokovic has been the center of a huge controversy. The Serbian has been denied entry into Australia, won a legal battle against the Australian government and then had his visa cancelled two times all in a little over a week. While the controversy continues, fellow tennis star Daniil Medvedev has broken his silence over the matter.
It is worth noting that Djokovic claimed to have an exemption that allowed him to enter Australia despite being unvaccinated. However, the situation has turned out to be the opposite. Addressing the same, Medvedev said:
“But from what I know, again, if he has a valid exemption to be in this country and to do what he wants, then he should play. If the exemption is not valid or something else is not valid, well, any country can deny your entry.”
Medvedev has made it known that if Djokovic’s exemption wasn’t valid, the country has the right to deny his entry. With the Australian Open just two days away, it is very unlikely that we see the Serbian compete for his 21st Grand Slam.
Novak Djokovic’s controversy has attracted people from all over the world and from all the different sports. Australian cricket legend Shane Warne was one of many to express his disregard for the Serbian and his actions. The Australian cricketer recently took to Twitter and said:
“Novak is a great tennis player & one of the all time greats. No doubt. But he’s lied on entry forms, been out in public when he knew he had covid & is now facing legal cases. He’s entitled to not be jabbed but Oz is entitled to throw him out ! Agree ? #shambles”
It is safe to say Warne isn’t too pleased with Djokovic and his recent controversy.
