Dannil Medvedev had an excellent 2021 season and will be gearing up for the Australian Open 2022
Daniil Medvedev overcame a spirited Mikael Ymer 6-4, 6-4 at the Davis Cup Finals to help the Russian team clinch a vital win against Sweden. With this win, the Russian Tennis Federation had made it to the semis of the tournament.
Earlier in the day, Andrey Rublev beat Elias Ymer 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (3) at the Madrid Arena. The doubles match wasn’t played as the Russian won both their singles matches to advance to the next stage of the tournament.
With this win, Russia will now take on Team Germany, meanwhile – Novak Djokovic’s Serbia will face Croatia.
World No.2 Medvedev has been in excellent form at the Davis Cup as this win was his third consecutive straight-set victory following the group-stage wins over Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta and Ecuador’s Emilio Gomez.
Talking after the match in the press conference – Medvedev said that he was happy with the way he served throughout the match and is happy how things have progressed for the team in the tournament.
“Today I should’ve served better, but I’m really happy to bring the point to the team. The most important thing is that we are winning a lot of matches. We didn’t lose a tie in the group, and we are really looking forward to Saturday.”
He also went on to say that there is still room for improvement in his game and needs to keep up focus even when things are going well.
“Serving for the match, I relax a bit when I shouldn’t do this., I missed some easy forehands that normally if you’re focused and you’re doing everything right, you’re not going to miss them. I bring him back to the game. Then he starts to believe in himself, he starts to play much, much better.”
