Daniil Medvedev lashes out at umpire Jaume Campistol during his Australian Open semi-final match
Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev progressed through to the finals of the Australian Open 2022 after beating Stefanos Tsitsipas. However, his victory did not come without an intense battle with the Greek player.
Interestingly, the Russian lost his cool and started shouting at the umpire Jaume Campistol during his match. The reason for this stemmed from the fact that Tsitsipas was receiving coaching instructions from his father in the stands, which also happens to be against the rules.
Medvedev said:
“His father can talk every point?! Are you stupid? His father can talk every point?! His father can talk every point, his father can talk every point? Answer my question! Will you answer my question? Can you answer my question please, can his father talk every point? Oh my god! Oh my god you are so bad, man! How can you be so bad in semifinals of Grand Slam?”
The umpire proceeded to ask Medvedev about what he wanted from him, however, the Russian proceeded to call him to call a “small cat”. Take a look at what he said:
“The next time it should be a coaching violation. If you don’t.. how can I call it..you are a small cat.”
Daniil Medvedev will take on Rafael Nadal in the final
After his emphatic victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas, Medvedev has booked himself a spot in the finals of the tournament against Rafael Nadal.
Earlier today, Nadal beat Matteo Berrettini in 4 sets to book a spot in the final.
It will take something extra special from the Russian to overcome Nadal, who will also be chasing his 21st Grand Slam on Sunday. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top in the final.
