Daniil Medvedev is looking to win his second Grand Slam and has reached the 2022 Australian Open final
Daniil Medvedev was able to keep his cool in rising temperatures as he reached the 2022 Australian Open final.
The Russian was facing Stefanos Tsitsipas and there were some angry words shared by Medvedev regarding a call from the umpire.
Medvedev and Tsitsipas already had a bit of a history and it was on show in Melbourne. However, the Russian was able to beat his Greek rival and now faces Rafael Nadal in the final.
By reaching the final, Medvedev also matched a bit of history. This will be Medvedev’s second straight Grand Slam finals appearance, and only Andy Murray has achieved this feat in the Open Era.
Medvedev could create history by winning the Australian Open, as he would be the first man to win a Grand Slam in the next attempt after getting his first one. The Russian won the 2021 US Open by defeating Novak Djokovic, and it will be interesting to see how he does against Nadal.
Rafael Nadal and Daniil Medvedev have previously met in a Grand Slam final
Medvedev won’t be facing Nadal for the first time in a final. The pair met in the final of the 2019 US Open and it was the Spaniard who came out on top.
Nadal beat the Russian in five sets as Medvedev was searching for his first Grand Slam title. However, the Russian seems to have the experience of winning the big title as he beat Djokovic in the US Open last year.
Medvedev avenged the defeat at the hands of Djokovic from the 2021 Australian Open in New York. And it will be interesting to see if he can beat the Spaniard on Sunday and create a bit of history that no one has been able to do.
