Daniil Medvedev opens up about the start of a new era in men’s tennis, with him reaching the pinnacle of the ATP rankings
Roger Federer is recovering after a knee surgery. Novak Djokovic has been in the news not for his superior skills on court but his stand against vaccination. Two among the three stalwarts that have dominated men’s tennis over quite a few years now are struggling in different ways.
The third one in this amazing troika of legendary tennis players, the Spaniard, Rafael Nadal, has got off to the best start in a season this time. He has an enviable career already but is far from over.
Nadal won the finals of the Australian Open last month against Medvedev. The man with 21 Grand Slams, beat Medvedev once again in the semi-finals of the Mexican Open.
While Roger Federer is set to return for practice on court very soon, Novak crashed out of the Dubai Open quarter-finals after losing to Vesely.
The question is arising in the tennis world. Is the domination of the top 3 about to end?
Medvedev promises to keep working hard to get better
The US Open winner didn’t wish to comment if the era of Nadal-Djokovic-Federer is over or not but he is happy with the progress that he has made.
Medvedev stunned Djokovic in the US Open in 2021. He is also set to be crowned as the no.1 men’s tennis player in the world. He displaces Novak from the top.
Daniil Medvedev spoke to Sportskeeda about whether the dominance of the fab-3 is ending or not:
“It is difficult to say [if a new era is beginning in tennis], especially if you look at what has happened in the last Grand Slams. Most were won by the Big Three, although it is true that I had the privilege of lifting the last title at the US Open. For my part, I am trying to put into practice my highest level of tennis, but that time in New York was the only time that I have been able to beat a member of the Big 3 in Grand Slam tournaments,” Medvedev said.
The man with a lot of promise, knows he needs to keep working hard to reach all the goals that he has set for himself. He went on saying:
“I will have to keep working and do better, since in other types of tournaments I have known how to beat them. In this Australian Open it happened to me again, there were moments in the match where I wasn’t strong enough.
It’s a bit early to talk about a new era, but for my part I’m happy to have achieved such a goal. A great feeling for me and my team.”
