Daniil Medvedev made it to the 2021 Australian Open final after going on an incredible 20-win streak

Russian ace Daniil Medvedev put on quite a show to reach the final of the 2021 Australian Open.

He took on Stefanos Tsitsipas, who himself had been in great form overcoming Rafael Nadal in the semis.

However, that five-set win over Nadal seemed to have taken something out of the Greek. Medvedev dominated Tsitsipas and won the match in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 and 7-5.

Apart from the final games of the third set Medvedev was never in any real trouble. This will be the 25-year-old’s second Grand Slam final and he will be keen on breaking his duck.

The last time he played a final was against Nadal at the US Open in 2019. He will be up against Novak Djokovic, someone who has won the Australian Open a record eight-times.

The Serbian won the title in 2020 too but Medvedev does have form on his side.

Daniil Medvedev on a crazy winning run

The 25-year-old has been on some streak coming into the 2021 Australian Open. The win over Tsitsipas was his 20th straight in all tournaments and he has beaten some big names too.

Some of the names that Medvedev has beaten in this run include Nadal, Dominic Thiem and Alexander Zverev.

He has gotten the better of Zverev thrice in this run but there is a big win over Djokovic in this too. That should give him some confidence going into the final on Sunday but defeating the Djoker in Australia is a different task altogether.

Something just seems to come out of Djokovic whenever he plays in the Australian Open and even with Medvedev’s incredible run, the Serbian will star as the favourite.

However, Medvedev might be playing the best tennis of his career, and there is a chance that he could end up winning his first Grand Slam on Sunday.
