US Open champion Emma Raducanu receives appreciation from Daniil Medvedev
The Men’s US Open champion Daniil Medvedev congratulated the Women’s US Open champion Emma Raducanu on his Twitter where he said:
“Imagine being 18, playing in your 4th pro event, winning only a 25k before and now being US Open champ! Incredible”
Raducanu created history with her US Open title win. She became the first ever player to win a Grand Slam entering through the qualifiers. Raducanu also became the first British woman to win a Grand Slam in 44 years. Which got her praise from the Queen of England as well.
Before entering the tournament she was ranked 150 in the WTA rankings and after her win she has been ranked as world number 23. Raducanu as mentioned in tweet was playing her only 4th pro event. The lack of experience certainly did not stop her from doing the unthinkable.
Daniil Medvedev’s memorable win over Novak Djokovic
Medvedev beat Djokovic to clinch his first ever Grand Slam as well. The Russian had previously faced Djokovic on eight occasions where he managed to win only three times.
Medvedev recently lost to Djokovic at the Australian Open 2021 final but got the better of him at the US Open finals. Djokovic was the favorite heading into the match but the match didn’t go as the Serb would’ve wanted it to.
Medvedev won in a three set game (6-4, 6-4, 6-4) to upset the odds and beat the World Number One. Djokovic stayed classy in defeat and took time to congratulate both champions on their historical first Grand Slam victories.
