The demand of the protestors was falling on deaf ears for a long time but finally, the correct decision has been taken as female players will be allowed to wear dark undershorts at the Wimbledon Championships.
The tennis world will breathe a sigh of relief as the officials of the All England Club have finally decided to allow female players to compete in dark undershorts instead of the all-white clothing that was compulsory for all these years at the grass-court major.
Female athletes faced problems playing in white undershorts during their menstrual cycles. This year, before the Ons Jabeur-Elena Rybakina final at Wimbledon, a bunch of protestors came in front of the stadium gate and held a campaign – ‘Address the dress code’ in order to have the Wimbledon officials change the color rules for women’s undershorts.
Tennis legends like Judy Murray and Billie Jean King also raised their voices and criticized the long-standing laws set up by the All England Club. All the external pressure has helped and finally, the right decision has been made.

Chief Executive of the All England Club- Sally Bolton recently came out with a statement confirming that from the upcoming edition of Wimbledon, female players will be allowed to wear dark undershorts.
“We are committed to supporting the players and listening to their feedback as to how they can perform at their best,” said Sally Bolton, chief executive of the All England Club. “I’m pleased to confirm that, following consultation with players and representatives of several stakeholder groups, the committee of management has taken the decision to update the white clothing rule at Wimbledon.
“This means that from next year, women and girls competing at The Championships will have the option of wearing coloured undershorts if they choose. It is our hope that this rule adjustment will help players focus purely on their performance by relieving a potential source of anxiety.”
