Serena Williams has been out of action since mid-2021 due to a leg injury
Serena Williams has not played professional tennis for close to a year now. The legendary tennis star was last seen in action at the 2021 Wimbledon. She suffered an injury during the tournament which forced her to withdraw from the competition.
Since then, Williams has not made a comeback on the WTA circuit. Presently, she is ranked 241st in the world, her all-time lowest career ranking. However, Serena Williams is still an active professional player and has not yet made any official announcement regarding her retirement.
Earlier this year, Serena Williams had given hints that she may retire soon. Williams said, “I definitely want to have more kids. It’s just like, balance is key and I’m just trying to find that balance. And I know the clock is ticking so I’m just like OK, I need to figure out soon, when that’s going to be, but hopefully soon when u will feel no pressure!”
On her retirement plans, Serena said, “I’m prepared for that day. I’ve been prepared that day for over a decade. I think it’s really important to always have a plan and that’s kind of what I did. I always had a plan.”
What is Serena Williams doing these days?
Serena Williams has been recently very busy with the promotion of the film ‘King Richard’. She appeared at several award ceremonies including the 94th Academy Awards. King Richard is a biographical sports drama film that follows the life of Richard Williams, the father and coach of Venus and Serena Williams. The tennis stars are executive producers of the film. It follows the life and journey of Venus and Serena Williams right from their childhood and how their father, Richard played a humongous role in them becoming the undisputed superstars of tennis.
Serena Williams is a 23-time Grand Slam champion in women’s singles and is regarded as one of the greatest ever tennis players. She emerged into the professional circuit in 1995, at the tender age of 15 years. Serena has won 73 WTA titles in her career with an overall win percentage of 84.9 %. She is a multiple-time Olympic gold medalist for the United States of America.
The numbers and the records created by the two sisters speak for themselves. There is no debate over the fact that the Williams’ sisters have re-defined women’s tennis and taken it to a different level altogether. The biographical film on them covers this incredible journey and is certainly an audience favourite!
