Dominic Thiem tested negative for Covid-19 but featured in the Adria Tour

Dominic Thiem confirmed that his Covid-19 results were negative amidst backlash for his Adria Tour antics.

The tennis world was taken by shock when four players including Novak Djokovic were tested positive for coronavirus following their participation in the Adria Tour earlier this month.

The Serbian star issued an apology on social media to his millions of fans and followers earlier on Tuesday after his actions received heavy criticism.

Djokovic was the main organiser of the tournament, which kicked off in Belgrade, Serbia on June 13, in which Thiem was judged the eventual winner. Thiem took to social media and posted an apology regarding the Adria Tour.

Thiem said that he was “extremely sorry” for the way players including himself conducted themselves while participating at the Adria Tour.

Grigor Dimitrov, Borna Coric, and Viktor Troicki were the other three players to contract the virus too. The Adria Tour drew big crowds and saw players pose for pictures together.

Images and videos of the players hugging at the net, playing basketball and partying together had also been posted earlier on social media platforms.

“You all should have thought about this better and more wisely”

Despite issuing an apology, Thiem was at the receiving end of heavy criticism as fans thronged in numbers to voice their disappointment.

“You all should have thought about this better and more wisely. The event shouldn’t have been organized and invited players should have refused to go. I’m sorry but you all set a bad example…,” an Instagram account holder named ‘elenaposer’ posted beneath Thiem’s apology.

“I respect your game and have cheered you on, but I was extremely disappointed to hear about your offA-court behavior when you should know better. Hope that it’s a lesson learned and that you don’t repeat the mistake,” another fan voiced his opinion.

The tennis players also received backlash from their fellow stars. Nick Kyrgios was against any form of tennis returning and took a shot at the stars.

The Aussie also asked for Djokovic and the rest of the players to be tested for Covid-19. Djokovic did test positive with his wife, and hopefully, not too many were infected during the Adria Tour.
