Dominic Thiem could face Stefanos Tsitsipas as the Austrian’s father opens up regarding plans for May exhibition event

Thiem’s father recently claimed that his son would participate in an exhibition match in mid-May in France. However, it still remains a possibility considering the coronavirus crisis that has gripped the world.

According to Thiem’s father Wolfgang Thiem, the World No.3 could be seen contesting in event announced by the Mouratoglou Academy in France.

He also added that Thiem could face young Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas and Belgian David Goffin as they train in the same academy.

Meanwhile, Thiem Sr seemed a little sceptical regarding tennis resuming after the break announced until July 13 by the ATP.

“I don’t think you can play the American tour, that’s my feeling,” he said of the Toronto, Cincinnati and US Open tournaments in New York which are the proposed events set to be held after the break.

Dominic Thiem resumes training

Meanwhile, reigning Australian Open runner-up Thiem resumed training on Tuesday after more than a month of confinement.

Thiem restarted his routine once again after getting sanction from the Austrian government. They gave the go-ahead for sports professionals to return to the training courts.

Thiem began usual training at a Vienna facility, along with his Austrian Davis Cup teammates Dennis Novak (85), Sebastian Ofner (163), and Jurij Rodionov (166).

Meanwhile, Thiem’s father Wolfgang is currently coordinating the training of four Austrians.

“The most difficult thing now is to have a goal, since it is not clear how we are going to continue, ” Thiem Sr. said to APA.

This uncertainty meant that it would be foolish for the players to go on training and not play any game this year, according to Thiem’s father.
