Here is everything you need to know about Dominic Thiem taking part in the US Open 2021

The 2021 US Open has begun heating up. It is nearing the fourth round, and the men’s singles have big names like World No.1 Novak Djokovic, Matteo Berrettini and Alexander Zverev in the mix.

However, before the start of the final Grand Slam of the year, several big names pulled out citing several issues, primarily injuries.

Two of the ‘Big Three’ pulled out from the tourney due to injury. While Rafael Nadal pulled out due to a foot injury, Roger Federer withdrew due to a recurring knee injury.

Another big name missing from 2021 US Open is the defending champion himself. Dominic Thiem has been nursing several injuries of late, and has had a hard time finding form as well.

Dominic Thiem Injury

Dominic Thiem finished the year 2020 with a bang. He beat Alexander Zverev in a marathon five-setter to win the first-ever Grand Slam in his career.

Thiem also became the first man born in the 1990s to win a Grand Slam. He did have a bit of luck – Djokovic was sent home packing after hitting a lady line judge in the Round of 16.

Just when it looked like it was the start of things to come, Thiem began struggling in 2021. He was defeated by Grigor Dimitrov in the fourth round of the 2021 Australian Open (straight sets).

The 2021 French Open proved to be another horror show, after he was defeated in the very first round by Pablo Andujar.

Therefore, Thiem decided to pull out from the 2021 Tokyo Olympics (due to poor form). A couple of days after his announcement, Thiem suffered a wrist injury at the Mallorca Championships.
