Dominic Thiem expressed his views on ATP’s decision to suspend the tour due to the coronavirus via Instagram.
The ATP has opted for a six-week hiatus until April 20 in response to the mass outbreak of coronavirus across the world.
Coronavirus, which has been declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO), had triggered the ATP to suspend all upcoming tours for the coming days with public health and safety in mind.
Thiem was in the United States (US) for the Indian Wells tournament expressed his sympathies after the ATP’s decision.
Thiem became the first player to react after ATP’s announcement by posting an emotional Instagram message:
Meanwhile, many other tennis stars also responded after ATP decided to cancel upcoming tournaments due to Coronavirus.
World No.14 and Argentine tennis star Diego Schwartzman took to Twitter in Spanish saying “la más sabia decisión en estos días” which translates to “the wisest decision these days” in English.
Australian tennis star John Millman posted a tweet on a rather lighter note. His tweet in response to ATP’s suspension of upcoming tours read: “Looking for work…”.
The tennis schedule will bear the brunt of the coronavirus. Hopefully, things settle down quickly and the players can get back to action soon.
The US has also introduced a travel ban from Europe. Several leagues have also been temporarily suspended.
The last-minute cancellations do hurt the fans and players, but the safety of all has to be the main concern.
