Austrian tennis star Dominic Thiem tried his hand at racing in the Red Bull Ring recently.

With tennis yet to resume following ATP’s decision to suspend all games and Tours at least until July 13 due to the pandemic coronavirus, Thiem decided to try his hand at a little something different.

Thiem chose to experiment with his driving skills by going racing in the Red Bull Ring – a motorsport race track in Spielberg, in Austria. The Red Bull Ring is a place quite familiar to Formula One (F1) fans as it is the venue of the Austrian Grand Prix – one of the 22 Grand Prix events held in a year.

Meanwhile, Friesacher is an Austrian racing driver who drove for the Minardi Formula One team during the first half of the 2005 season.

Thiem heaped praised upon former Chilean star Nicolas Massu, 12 months after appointing him as his coach. Massu, a former World No.9 and two-time Olympic gold medal winner joined Thiem’s team just a month before the 2019 BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells.

In his first tournament with Thiem, Massu helped the Austrian win his first-ever Masters 1000 title of his career. Thiem could not help but shower words of praise for his coach, with whom he added that he was looking to build on the progress he made since last year.

“There is a great chemistry between us. He is a great guy, a very good character. I’m happy to be with him and I’m looking forward to good times ahead,” Thiem said about Massu.

Massu replaced Gunter Bresnik, who had been coaching Thiem since he was a boy. Under Massu’s guidance, Thiem has reached two Grand Slam finals – the 2019 French Open and the 2020 Australian Open.
