Elina Svitolina reacts to Ukraine being on the brink of Russian invasion

The Ukrainian tennis star put up an emotional tweet asking fellow Ukrainians to stay united

Elina Svitolina currently resides in London, England. The World No. 15 is married to French tennis star, Gael Monfils. She has put up an emotional video on Twitter stating, “I am proud to be Ukrainian. Let us unite in this extremely difficult time for the sake of peace and the future of our state. Glory to Ukraine.”

The tennis star was playing in the Qatar Open this week. 10th seeded Svitolina lost her Round of 64 match against Czech Republic’s Martincova.

The World is going through a crisis at the moment. Russia and Ukraine are on the brink of war. Reports of the Russian invasion have already started to come in. The Russian president, Vladimir Putin has officially announced that they will recognise two disputed Ukrainian territories as independent states.

A state of emergency has been declared by the Ukrainian government as a response to the situation. Reacting to the crisis, various Ukrainian sports stars have taken to Twitter to show their solidarity with the citizens. Elina Svitolina has asked for de-escalation and called upon everyone to #StandwithUkraine.
