Damir Dzumhur took a bit of a shot at Rafael Nadal winning the 2022 Australian Open by bringing in Novak Djokovic
Damir Dzumhur certainly got the tennis world talking after he posted a story on Instagram. The 29-year-old Bosnian posted his take on Rafael Nadal winning the 2022 Australian Open and claimed that anyone could have won the title.
He also brought up the Novak Djokovic saga and as he made his statement on social media. Djokovic was also referred to as the GOAT (greatest of all time).
This didn’t sit down well with too many fans and then Australian star Ellen Perez also took a shot at Dzumhur.
She went on to say that since anyone could have won the title, why did Dzumhur not do the same? The Bosnian was knocked out in the first round of the singles tournament.
“Imagine competing at a Djokovic-less slam and not winning it and then going on to say anyone can win it…. Logic = 0”
This led to a crazy war of words between the Djokovic fans and the Nadal fans. However, Perez was quick to respond to the social media tussle and wanted people to concentrate more on the poor post from Dzumhur.
Why did Novak Djokovic miss out on the 2022 Australian Open?
The Serbian was looking to win his 21st Grand Slam and become the first man to do so. However, his Covid-19 vaccination status led to him being first being kept in a special quarantine facility and then being deported from the country.
The Serbian also moved the Australian courts regarding the visa he was provided. However, all of that fell apart and he was unceremoniously sent packing from the country.
Djokovic has dominated the Australian Open in recent years and many believed he would pick up his 21st title here.
However, it was Nadal who got the jump on the Serbian. The Spaniard reached the final and beat Daniil Medvedev in five sets.
Nadal was down 2-0 in the five-set match but he turned it on in the final three sets to create history.
