Emma Raducanu won the US Open 2021 to upset the odds. This is the first time that a Grand Slam has been won by a player who entered the tournament through qualifiers. Raducanu’s achievement is receiving praise by all, including the Queen of England. The Queen praised Raducanu for her achievement and said:
“It is a remarkable achievement at such a young age, and is testament to your hard work and dedication”
Raducanu has definitely written one of the greatest stories at the US Open. The Brit is ranked 150 in the WTA rankings before entering the US Open through qualifiers. In the qualifying also she was exceptional. She did not even lose a set on her way to main draw.
Raducanu has just earned her first Grand Slam at the age of 18. She surely has a bright future ahead of her and we got to see a glimpse of what she is capable of today. The final Grand Slam of the year has definitely given us something to talk about for days to come.
The US Open Women’s final was played today between Emma Raducanu and Leylah Fernandez. It was also a clash between the world no.150 and no.73. Both had beat some tough competition to get to the final. Raducanu however rose to the occasion and clinched her first Grand Slam.
The 18 year old brit proved to be dominant over Fernandez as she clinched the match winning 6-3 and 6-4 in two sets. Raducanu has also become the first British woman to win a Grand Slam in 44 long years.
