Emma Raducanu rose to fame after winning the 2021 US Open as a 18-year old. She became the first ever qualifier to win a Grand Slam. Raducanu and Rafael Nadal are the only two tennis players in the top 10 of the most searched athletes list.
The British teenager defied all odds to win the Grand Slam, that too without losing a set throughout her 10 matches in New York. Her outgoing and charming personality become a global heart-throb.
Emma Raducanu was born in Canada to a Romanian father and Chinese mother and raised in England. She idolizes Simona Halep and Li Na, former Grand Slam champions, and has attributed her ethics and mentality to her professional role models. Raducanu has won only 1 WTA title so far and it’s a Grand Slam – the US Open 2021. She is presently ranked 13th in the world. The British teenager is currently in the U.S.A, all set to begin her campaign at the Indian Wells Masters.
The media frenzy surrounding the Brit and the public interest has resulted in Raducanu gaining several high-profile endorsements such as luxury brands Tiffany and Dior with Evian being her latest one. She has become one of the highest-paid athletes in a very short period.
Raducanu has been nowhere close to her top form since winning the US Open title. She has had a very disappointing start to the new season as well. In 2022, the teenager has played 3 tournaments so far with no notable performances. She started the year with the Sydney International where she lost in the first round itself to Elena Rybakina.
The 19-year old entered the first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open as the 17th seed. She notched up a good victory against Sloane Stephens in the first round but then lost to an unseeded Danka Kovinic in the second round. Her next event was Guadalajara Open where she entered the draw as No. 1 seed however had to give a walkover in the very first round due to an injury.
Emma Raducanu is now gearing up to begin her campaign at the Indian Wells Masters. She is set to take on Caroline Garcia in the first round. If Raducanu plays anywhere close to what she played last time in the U.S, she will stand a chance to win her 2nd professional career title. After struggling with Covid and fitness issues since winning the Grand Slam, Raducanu will now be hoping to find some stability and consistency. A good run of form will boost her confidence going into the US Open as the defending champion later this year.
