Nick Kyrgios is set to take on Rafael Nadal in the semi-final of Wimbledon 2022 – following a dream run in the tournament
Nick Kyrgios seems to have found another high-profile fan in the form of Emma Raducanu. After Kyrgios defeated Garin in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon, the 19-year-old took to Twitter and wrote the Australian’s initials “NK”, alongside a wizard’s wand emoji.
Raducanu was knocked out of this year’s Wimbledon in the second round, but it seems the British teenager has still found time to watch the competition after her exit.
Kyrgios was quick to thank Raducanu for the support. “Appreciate the support“, the Australian star replied in response to Raducanu’s tweet.
Nick Kyrgios has certainly impressed one and all with his sublime display of tennis so far at Wimbledon. Kyrgios has already achieved his best-ever result in a Grand Slam in a long time. The last time the 40th-ranked player reached the last eight at a major was at the Australian Open in 2015, a year after he reached the same stage on his debut at the All England Club.
Things don’t seems to be as smooth off the court for Kyrgios
Despite Kyrgios’ performance finally doing the talking on the court, controversies never seem to leave Kyrgios. The Australian is facing assault charges at an Australian court amidst his dream run at the Wimbledon.
Kyrgios is charged with assaulting ex-girlfriend Chiara Passari. The 27-year-old who is presently gearing up for his Wimbledon semi-final clash, is due to face court in Canberra next month. The maximum sentence for common assault in Australia, is two years in jail.
In their official statement, the Australian Police revealed – “ACT Policing can confirm a 27-year-old Watson man is scheduled to face the ACT Magistrates Court on the 2nd of August in relation to one charge of common assault following an incident in December 2021.”
Passari and the tennis star started dating in the middle of 2020. Just three months after Kyrgios split from Russian tennis player Anna Kalinskaya. They dated on and off for about 18 months before Kyrgios confirmed he was in a new relationship with Costeen Hatzi in December last year.
