Alexander Zverev is the current World No.7 and has 11 ATP titles to his name

‘Next Gen’ star Alexander Zverev remains a calm man despite the pandemic coronavirus outbreak gripping the whole world in fear at present.

German Zverev like many of his co-stars is currently undergoing self-isolation at his adopted home in Florida, USA. However, Zverev, unlike the rest of them remains unfazed even during such a crisis.

The 22-year-old is currently making the best use of his free time by training at the Saddlebrook Tennis Academy near Tampa during the lockdown.

He is accompanied by his elder brother and former World No.25 Mischa and a few others.

Zverev, the current World No.7, meanwhile, has his own training pitch and a weight room all for himself to keep in good shape, with the ATP suspending all tennis-related activities for the foreseeable future.

Zverev in conversation with German media outlet Sport Bild said that he is mainly working on his volleys, footwork and serve during the crisis.

“When it comes to training, everything is the same for me as always. I now consider this a longer off-season. I don’t have anything better to do than training anyway,” Zverev said. He is currently staying with his family and team near the tennis facility.

The break is an advantage for rivals

Young Zverev enjoyed a good start to the season, after reaching his first-ever Grand Slam semi-finals in Australia earlier this year.

However, he lost to eventual runner-up and friend Dominic Thiem of Austria, before exiting from the Majors. The suspension of tennis seems a little bitter on the in-form German, who is considered as one of the upcoming stars of the game.

Meanwhile, Zverev is of the opinion that the old guard of Novak Djokovic (32), Rafael Nadal (33) and Roger Federer (38) will be the ones, who will be at advantage during the time-out.

“So, the break is more of an advantage for the elderly. But I am certain that the change of guard will come afterwards,” Zverev explained.

According to him, the lockdown will offer the ‘Big Three’ of tennis more time to work on their routine and understand what they exactly need at the moment.

Zverev also added that they would be fresh when the season resumes after the break.
