Rafael Nadal and his wife Maria Perello are expecting their first child in October. Mery Perello, who is 31 weeks into her pregnancy, was admitted to a private clinic in Palma.
The legendary Spaniard will be concerned as Diario de Mallorca reports Perello could undergo surgery in the coming hours as per the recommendation of her doctors.
Perello has been in the hospital since Monday and has her family by her side. Rafael Nadal’s sister, Maribel Nadal, has also been spotted.
The 34-year-old is at a very crucial stage of her pregnancy and will remain under observation as a precautionary measure.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion revealed after winning his 14th French Open title that his wife was pregnant. He is currently in New York practicing ahead of the US Open championships. The US Open draw takes place this Thursday with the main tournament beginning on August 29. The qualifiers have already begun.

Rafael Nadal has had a stellar season thus far on the tennis court. He has won two Grand Slam titles thus far. The first one came at the Australian Open where he defeated Daniil Medvedev in a thrilling final. The second one came at the French Open where he won a record-extending 14th title after defeating Casper Ruud in the final. He has also won two titles in Melbourne and Mexico. Nadal last played in the Cincinnati Masters after recovering from an abdominal tear. However, his run ended in the first round itself as he lost to eventual champion Borna Coric in three sets.
