Coco Gauff continues to impress as she reaches the round of 16 of the US Open for the first time in her young career.
The 18-year-old reached the semifinals at the Adelaide International 2 and the Berlin Open this year. However, her best result came at the French Open where she reached the finals before being outplayed by World No. 1 Iga Swiatek.
She reached the quarterfinals at the Silicon Valley Classic and the Canadian Open in August but suffered a setback at the recently-concluded Cincinnati Masters where she lost in the first round to Marie Bouzkova.
Gauff took the debacle in her stride and came out all guns blazing at Flushing Meadows. She has won all three matches she has played till now in straight sets. In the first round, she defeated Leolia Jeanjean. Her second-round opponent Elena-Gabriela Ruse almost pushed her into the third set but she held her nerves to finish it in the second.
Gauff faced a stiff test in the third round. She played compatriot Madison Keys at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. The 12th seed defeated the former finalist in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.

Coco Gauff will face China’s Zhang Shuai in the round of 16. The 33-year-old will also be playing her first fourth-round match at the US Open.
