Ons Jabeur had her best year on the tour and has deservingly been honored by Vogue Arabia as she graced the cover of the famous magazine.
The Tunisian star has had a stellar season that has seen her become an inspiration for women in African and Arabian countries. In the coming years, it should not come as a surprise if we see a plethora of talents coming out from those parts of the world.
Talking about Jabeur’s performance in 2022, the 28-year-old etched her name in the history books by becoming the first Muslim and Arab player (male or female) to reach a Grand Slam final. She finished runner-up at both the Wimbledon and the US Open.
On 27 June 2022, Jabeur rose up to the No. 2 position in the WTA rankings. This was the highest spot achieved by an African and Arab tennis player in WTA and ATP rankings history.
At the Madrid Open, the Tunisian No. 1 entered the final and defeated Jessica Pegula to win the title. By virtue of this win, Jabeur became the first African player to win a WTA title.
Jabeur clinched another title as she won the German Open after Belinda Bencic retired during the second set of the final. In the 64 matches she played in 2022, Jabeur ended with 47 wins and just 17 losses. After such a record-filled year, all the adulation coming her way seems apt.
Jabeur has been featured on the cover of Vogue Arabia. It is the Arab edition of Vogue magazine and is distributed in several Arab countries.
