Fans reacted to an old Tweet from Andy Murray about WTA Finals 2022 winner Caroline Garcia
Andy Murray was recently seen in action at the Paris Masters. His run in the Masters 1000 event was cut short in the first round itself after he lost to Gilles Simon in a three-set affair. The British legend might not have had a great season but there is no doubting his overall contribution to the sport in what has been a splendid career.
There’s a popular saying: “Greatness recognizes greatness.” Murray proved it back in 2011 when he took to Twitter and praised Caroline Garcia and predicted a bright future for the young Frenchwoman. Garcia was playing Maria Sharapova in the second round of the 2011 French Open. Garcia, who was just 17 back then, gave the legendary Sharapova a real scare before going down 6-3, 4-6, 0-6. The fine performance from the youngster impressed everyone including Murray. He wrote the following on his Twitter account:
“The girl Sharapova is playing is going to be number one in the world one day Caroline Garcia, what a player u heard it here first.”
11 years later, Garcia has not yet made it to the pinnacle of the WTA rankings but she is very close to it. She is currently ranked No. 4 and recently won her first WTA Finals crown.
