Alcaraz reached his second successive Grand Slam quarterfinal on a day when his idol Rafael Nadal lost to America’s Frances Tiafoe.

The young Spaniard will take on Italy’s Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals. The 21-year-old defeated Ilya Ivashka in five sets in the fourth round to reach his first US Open quarterfinal. Because of the win, Sinner became the youngest player to reach the quarterfinals of all four Grand Slam events in a season since Novak Djokovic did it at 20 in 2007.
